Overnight backpacking with famous lightning bugs!
Spend a summer night deep in the Smoky Mountain backcountry and possibly see the famous synchronized fireflies. Guests will carry a larger backpack designed for overnight trips and hike approximately 3 miles to a backcountry campsite. We’ll set up camp beside the river, gather firewood, and go for a swim. Away from the noise of modern life we will listen to the crackle of our campfire and the sounds of nature as the sun sets. Once it is dark we might even be treated the synchronized flashing of photinus carolinus, the synchronized firefly! Guests should be comfortable hiking on easy to moderate terrain while carrying 15-25 pounds of gear. Smoky Mountain Guides will provide backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, and a typical backpacker dinner, breakfast, and snacks. This overnight backpacking experience is our most rugged and wild way to possibly see the famous Smoky Mountains synchronous firefly.
